PORT SUDAN -- The Command of the 6th Infantry Division of the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) announced that it had repelled an attack by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on El Fasher, the capital city of North Darfur State in western Sudan.
"The armed forces, joint forces, and popular resistance, backed by artillery and warplanes, have repelled an attack by the rebel militia on the outskirts of El Fasher city on Friday," the division said in a statement obtained by Xinhua on Saturday. (Sudan-Rebel Militia-Attack)

KANDAHAR, Afghanistan -- The Afghan security forces have seized 188 kg of drugs used in manufacturing heroin in southern Kandahar province, provincial police spokesman Mullah Asadullah Jamshidi said on Saturday.
The contraband was confiscated during a counter-narcotic operation conducted in Ghorak district of this province, the official said, adding that further investigation is underway. (Afghanistan-Drug)

TOKYO -- A reactor at the Onagawa nuclear plant in Miyagi Prefecture, northeastern Japan, has resumed power generation for the first time since the Fukushima nuclear disaster in March 2011, its operator said.
Tohoku Electric Power Company said that the Onagawa No. 2 reactor restarted power generation at 6 p.m. local time Friday. After an adjustment operation to check for any abnormalities while gradually increasing output, the reactor will be temporarily halted for equipment checks. (Japan-Nuclear Plant)

BEIRUT -- Three paramedics were killed and 11 others injured in Israeli raids on southern Lebanon on Saturday, Lebanon's official National News Agency (NNA) reported.
One paramedic was killed and seven others injured in an Israeli raid targeting the town of Borj Rahal in the Tyre district, whereas two paramedics from the Civil Defense were killed and four others wounded in an Israeli drone raid on the village of Kfar Tebnit, east of the city of Nabatieh, the NNA reported.
