SANTIAGO, Nov. 16 (Xinhua) -- Veteran defender Mauricio Isla has been drafted into Chile's squad for the team's World Cup qualifier against Venezuela, the Chilean Football Federation said on Saturday.
The 36-year-old former Juventus right-back replaces Felipe Loyola, who has been ruled out of Tuesday's clash in Santiago due to an accumulation of yellow cards.
Isla, a member of the Colo-Colo squad that won this year's Chilean top-flight title, was dropped from La Roja squad following September qualifiers against Argentina and Bolivia.
Chile is currently last in the 10-team South American qualifying group with just six points from 11 games, six points behind seventh-placed Venezuela.
The top six teams will automatically qualify for the 2026 World Cup while the seventh-ranked side will contest an intercontinental playoff. Enditem
