AMMAN, Nov. 18 (Xinhua) -- Jordan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Monday the release of Jordanian journalist Umair al-Ghuraibeh, who had been detained in Syria since 2019, and his safe return to the kingdom.
Spokesperson for the ministry Sufian Qudah said that the Syrian authorities released al-Ghuraibeh under a special presidential pardon issued by Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, according to a statement.
The Jordanian embassy in Damascus accompanied him to the Jordanian border in an embassy vehicle, where he was handed over to his family.
Qudah said that the ministry, through its embassy in Syria, monitored the circumstances of al-Ghuraibeh's detention and maintained continuous communication with the Syrian authorities to secure his release. He also voiced appreciation to Syria for his release.
Al-Ghuraibeh entered Syrian territory through the Nasib border crossing on Feb. 7, 2019, and was arrested by the Syrian authorities during his return on Feb. 12, 2019, with his camera confiscated. Enditem
