Mid-year gems emporium held in Myanmar's Nay Pyi Taw

YANGON, Nov. 19 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar launched its mid-year gems emporium for 2024 in the capital city of Nay Pyi Taw on Monday, the state-run daily The Mirror reported on Tuesday.

Myanmar's State Administration Council Chairman Senior General Min Aung Hlaing attended the opening ceremony, along with over 4,500 local and foreign merchants, the report said.

The 10-day event will make the sale of 280 lots of pearls, 160 lots of gems and 4,800 lots of jade through an open tender system. Merchants can make purchases in currencies accepted by the Central Bank of Myanmar, including the U.S. dollar, euros, the Chinese yuan, Thai baht, and kyats, it said.

The event will last until Nov. 27.

The emporium, sponsored by Myanmar's Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation, has been held since 1964. Enditem
