JERUSALEM, Nov. 20 (Xinhua) -- Israel's flagship airline El Al reported on Wednesday a record revenue of 1.004 billion U.S. dollars in the third quarter, surpassing the previous quarter's all-time high.
The airline's revenue surged by 44.3 percent year-on-year and 19.6 percent compared to the second quarter of 2024, the airline said in its third-quarter financial results report.
The airline's profits totaled 187.4 million dollars in the third quarter, an increase of 38.9 percent year-on-year, and 257 percent compared to the second quarter.
The airline attributed the growth to the challenging security situation, which has led to flight cancellations by foreign airlines, creating an unprecedented surge in demand that outstripped supply.
In the third quarter, 4.9 million passengers passed through Israel's Ben Gurion International Airport outside Tel Aviv, with about 2 million of them, or 41 percent, flying with El Al.
This compares to 7.7 million passengers who passed through the airport in the third quarter of 2023, before the outbreak of the conflict in October that year, with only 22 percent flying with El Al. Enditem
