WINDHOEK, Nov. 22 (Xinhua) -- Namibia's premier cycling event, the Tour de Windhoek 2025 is set to make history as the women's race earned the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) and the Confederation of African Cycling (CAC) accreditation.

This will be Namibia's first-ever accredited road race, which will take place from February 20 to 23.

Megabuild, the title sponsor, Thursday in a statement expressed excitement about the accreditation, highlighting its significance for Namibian cycling.

"This event embodies the spirit of athleticism, unity, and the breathtaking beauty of Namibia," said Martin Schoeman, Managing Director of Pupkewitz Megabuild.

"We are thrilled to once again sponsor the Tour de Windhoek, especially as we celebrate the accreditation of the ladies' race, a significant achievement for Namibian cycling."

According to Schoeman, the ladies' race now holds the two accreditations, signalling its compliance with international and regional standards

This status allows participating cyclists to earn critical UCI points, contributing to their global rankings and paving the way for opportunities in world-class competitions like the World Championships and Olympics.

"The Tour de Windhoek has established itself as a premier event in the cycling calendar, offering thrilling competition across challenging terrains and showcasing Namibia's stunning landscapes," he added.

Meanwhile, the 400km event will feature six stages, including a prologue, road races, a hill climb, and a criterium that tests endurance and skill, making it a spectacle for both riders and spectators. Enditem
