KABUL, Nov. 23 (Xinhua) -- The construction of a water supply project has been completed and put into operation in southern Afghanistan's Zabul province, the state-run Bakhtar news agency reported Saturday.

The network, which costs 4 million afghani (about 58,823 U.S. dollars), could provide clean water to 240 families in Qalat city, the provincial capital of Zabul province.

Additionally, it will assist farmers in irrigating hundreds of acres of land in the area, the report said.

Afghanistan has been suffering from droughts for years, and the residents of big cities, including the capital city of Kabul, have faced extreme shortages of drinking water over the past couple of years. Enditem
