COLOMBO, Nov. 25 (Xinhua) -- Over 50,000 people have been affected by rain-related disasters in 10 administrative districts in Sri Lanka since Nov. 22, according to the country's Disaster Management Center (DMC) on Monday.

The DMC said 52,629 people from 15,023 families have been affected due to disasters such as floods, strong winds, lightning and tree falls in these districts in Northern, Uva, North Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern and Eastern Provinces.

Sri Lanka's Department of Meteorology said on Monday that the low-pressure area over the southwest Bay of Bengal had intensified into a depression.

Very heavy showers above 150 mm are likely at some places in Northern Province and Trincomalee district, according to the department. Enditem
