JAKARTA, Nov. 25 (Xinhua) -- Mount Semeru, located in Indonesia's East Java province, erupted multiple times on Monday, prompting warnings of potential lava flows and hot clouds, according to the country's Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation Center.

The eruptions sent a column of thick grey ash as high as 800 meters into the sky, with the ash dispersing southwest of the crater. Residents have been strictly prohibited from engaging in any activities within a 500-meter radius along rivers originating from the slopes of the volcano due to the risk of lava flow and the expansion of hot cloud movements.

Authorities have also warned that lava flows and hot clouds could extend up to 13 km from the volcano.

Standing at 3,676 meters, Mount Semeru is one of Indonesia's 127 active volcanoes. Enditem
