SEOUL, Nov. 26 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's retail sales kept growing last month due to strong online demand for food, daily necessities and services, government data showed Tuesday.
The combined revenue among major offline and online retailers expanded 6.7 percent in October from a year earlier, equaling an increase of 6.7 percent in the previous month, according to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.
Revenue for online retailers jumped 13.9 percent last month, maintaining a double-digit growth for the 14th straight month since September last year.
Sales by offline retailers stood unchanged in October compared with the same month of last year after slipping 0.9 percent in September.
Food demand in cyberspace soared 24.8 percent, while online sales of daily necessities went up in double digits.
Online demand for service, including travel, food delivery and e-coupon purchases, spiked 66.5 percent, but sales of clothes and sports items in cyberspace declined to single figures. Offline demand for food and service gained in single digits, but those for clothes, sports items and daily necessities retreated in single figures.
Revenue among discount outlets and department stores recorded a single-digit fall, but sales by convenience stores gained ground last month. Enditem
