COLOMBO, Nov. 26 (Xinhua) -- Sri Lanka's cabinet has approved a proposal to submit a supplementary estimate of 219.4 billion rupees (750 million U.S. dollars) to parliament to cover essential expenses for the remainder of 2024, a spokesman said on Tuesday.
Cabinet spokesman and Minister of Health and Mass Media Nalinda Jayatissa told the media that the estimate would not exceed the approved overall expenditure limits and would not impact the maximum government debt ceiling.
Additionally, the government will present a vote on account to parliament to continue government operations and debt servicing from January to April 2025.
The 2025 budget proposal is scheduled to be presented to parliament on Jan. 9, 2025, with the second reading on Feb. 17. Enditem
