KANDAHAR, Afghanistan, Nov. 26 (Xinhua) -- A plant that produces water tanks has been built and put into operation recently in southern Afghanistan's Kandahar province, the plant's managing director Sediqullah said Tuesday.
Providing 50 job opportunities at the moment, the plant produces 250 water tanks daily with a capacity of 200 liters to 5,000 liters, the official said.
The plant was built at a cost of 100,000 U.S. dollars, the official said, adding that efforts are underway to expand the manufacturing capacity of the factory.
In the meantime, provincial director for industry and commerce Qari Hamdullah said so far 280 factories and plants are operational in Kandahar Industrial Park and more investments are encouraged in the region.
As part of efforts to alleviate poverty and achieve self-sufficiency, the Afghan caretaker government has been encouraging Afghans and foreign companies to construct new plants or reactivate damaged factories across the country. Enditem
