VIENTIANE, Nov. 27 (Xinhua) -- Laos recorded a trade deficit of 154 million U.S. dollars in September, marking the ninth straight month of trade deficit in 2024.

According to the latest figures from the Lao Trade Portal website, the total value of trade in September amounted to over 1 billion U.S. dollars, of which 455 million dollars was for exports and 609 million dollars for imports.

Laos' main export products included mixed gold, electric equipment, rubber, paper, salt, wood shaving, copper ore, banana, sugar, and cassava.

The country's main imports included diesel, mechanical equipment, land vehicles, electrical appliances, steel, finished chemical products, vehicle spare parts, plastic products, beverages, and gasoline.

China, Vietnam and Thailand are among the leading export destinations for Lao products. Meanwhile, major import sources to Laos included Thailand, China and Vietnam, according to the report.

During the Lao government's monthly meeting for November, participants discussed measures to address pressing economic and financial issues.

The government is emphasizing its efforts to curb the import of locally producible goods. Efforts to balance import-export dynamics and strengthen domestic production capabilities for export are also being explored. Enditem
