YANGON, Nov. 28 (Xinhua) -- The sixth Meeting of Ayeyawady-Chao Phraya-Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy (ACMECS) Tourism Ministers on Thursday reached a consensus on prioritizing the promotion of digitalization for tourism development.

The meeting was held in Yangon, Myanmar and chaired by Darany Phommavongsa, Lao deputy minister of information, culture and tourism.

At a press conference on Thursday, Darany said the promotion of digitalization within ACMECS tourism development would help strengthen resilience, sustainability, quality and excellent competition.

She said the meeting has emphasized the importance of forging closer collaboration among the ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) member states in all relevant sectors to ensure the sustainability and resilience of ASEAN tourism.

The meeting also adopted the extension of the Plan of Action on ACMECS Tourism Cooperation 2025-2026, Darany said.

Furthermore, the meeting encouraged the creation and promotion of various joint tourism events and festivals, she added.

The ACMECS countries, including Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam, attracted 47.3 million international travelers from January to September this year. Enditem
