MADRID, Nov. 28 (Xinhua) -- Spain's badminton star Carolina Marin said on Thursday that her next major goal will be the 2026 European Badminton Championship.

Marin was speaking at the presentation of a documentary film "La Lucha Infinita" [The never-ending struggle] about her battle back to fitness after her cruciate knee injury in the semifinals of the Olympic Games in Paris.

That injury led to one of the most inspiring moments of the Games when her Chinese rival He Bingjiao [who went on to take silver] wore a pin with the Spanish flag on it in the medal ceremony.

"I felt very clear that when I broke my knee for the third time in the Olympic Games, I was going to retire, but after a lot of reflection, I realized it would really upset me if I was forced to retire through injury," she said.

The 31-year-old is now working to return to action, and has set her sights on the European Badminton Championship, which will be held in her home city of Huelva in 2026.

"I don't want it to be an obsession, but it is a big target on the horizon. I would be very excited to compete there, in my home and with all my friends," she said. Enditem
