TOKYO, Nov. 29 (Xinhua) -- Japan's industrial output expanded 3.0 percent in October from the previous month, up for the second straight month, government data showed Friday.

The seasonally adjusted index of production at factories and mines in October stood at 104.3 against the 2020 base of 100, a preliminary report from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry showed.

The expansion followed an upwardly revised 1.6 percent increase in September, propped up by strong exports of semiconductor manufacturing equipment, the ministry said.

Overall, 11 of the 15 surveyed sectors including production machinery and motor vehicles saw increased output, while four other sectors including electronic parts and devices registered declines.

The ministry retained its basic assessment of industrial production from the previous month, saying it "fluctuates indecisively."

Based on a poll of manufacturers, the ministry expects output to decrease 2.2 percent and 0.5 percent in November and December, respectively. Enditem
