BERLIN, Nov. 29 (Xinhua) -- As Borussia Dortmund prepares to host Bayern Munich in a high-stakes Bundesliga clash this Saturday, the team's split performance between home and away games is drawing attention.
Dortmund has been dominant at Signal Iduna Park, earning six home wins with a goal difference of 18-6. But on the road, the Black and Yellows have struggled, suffering four losses and scoring just four goals while conceding 12.
Despite trailing Bayern by 10 points in the Bundesliga standings after 11 matches, Dortmund CEO Lars Ricken remains optimistic. "We are going to win the game against Bayern," Ricken said, pointing to the team's strong home record, with their last home loss dating back to April 2024.
The match is pivotal for Dortmund's title hopes. A loss to unbeaten Bayern, who sit comfortably atop the table with 29 points, could effectively end Dortmund's championship aspirations before the winter break.
Germany legend Lothar Matthaus believes Dortmund has found stability under head coach Nuri Sahin. "They've improved defensively and added speed on the flanks," Matthaus said. "If they play with confidence and determination, they can hurt Bayern."
Former Bayern and Liverpool midfielder Dietmar Hamann agrees, citing Dortmund's recent resurgence and the return of forward Serhou Guirassy as key factors. "Guirassy is crucial. He's not only a reliable scorer but also a great target man who can hold up the ball," Hamann said.
Another bright spot for Dortmund is the emergence of English winger Jamie Gittens. The 19-year-old has tallied four goals and one assist in five Champions League matches, along with three goals and three assists in league play.
With home advantage and renewed form, Dortmund will look to hand Bayern their first loss of the season and keep their slim title hopes alive. Enditem
