OTTAWA, Nov. 29 (Xinhua) -- Canada's real gross domestic product (GDP) edged up 0.1 percent in September, after remaining essentially unchanged in August, Statistics Canada said Friday.
According to the national statistical agency, services-producing industries rose 0.2 percent in September, in large part driven by increases in the retail and wholesale trade sectors. This was the fourth consecutive month in which the services-producing industries increased.
Goods-producing industries contracted 0.3 percent in September, as the mining, quarrying, and oil and gas extraction and the manufacturing sectors contracted in the month. Goods-producing industries were down for a second month in a row.
Real GDP by industry rose 0.2 percent in the third quarter, following a 0.5 percent increase in the previous quarter. Services-producing industries drove the increase in the third quarter, continuing the uninterrupted quarterly increases that began in the third quarter of 2020. Goods-producing industries contracted 0.4 percent in the third quarter of 2024, partially offsetting the increase recorded in the previous quarter.
Advance information indicates that the country's real GDP increased 0.1 percent in October, said Statistics Canada. Enditem
