LONDON, Nov. 29 (Xinhua) -- Leicester City on Friday confirmed Ruud van Nistelrooy as its new first-team coach with a contract until the end of June 2027.

The former striker has coached PSV Eindhoven and was assistant to Erik ten Hag at Manchester United, winning three out of four games in charge at Old Trafford as interim boss after Ten Hag's sacking, before leaving the club just two weeks ago.

He has the task of replacing Steve Cooper, who lost his job in the wake of Leicester's 2-1 defeat at home to Chelsea last weekend after just 12 Premier League games in charge.

"I'm proud, I'm excited ... Everybody that I speak to about Leicester City is enthusiastic. They have great stories about the quality of the people working at the club, the supporters and, of course, the recent history of the club is impressive."

"I'm excited to start and to get to know everyone and give everything I can for the football club," said Van Nistelrooy, whose first game in charge will be at home to West Ham on December 3. Enditem
