BERLIN, Dec. 1 (Xinhua) -- Eintracht Frankfurt moved closer to Bundesliga leader Bayern Munich after Omar Marmoush's brace led them to a 4-0 victory over Heidenheim on Sunday.
Heidenheim generated the first opportunity of the match, with Mikkel Kaufmann shooting directly at Frankfurt goalkeeper Kevin Trapp from a promising position in the 12th minute.
Despite initially struggling to break through Heidenheim's well-structured defense, Frankfurt opened the scoring in the 22nd minute. Nathaniel Brown's precise through ball set up Marmoush, who found the net with a strike to the near post, outsmarting Heidenheim's goalkeeper Kevin Muller.
Second-half substitute Fares Chaibi made an immediate impact, powering home a shot from 15 meters to double Frankfurt's lead in the 49th minute.
The visitors extended their advantage just nine minutes later when Marmoush raced down the left wing and slotted the ball past Muller for his second goal of the night.
Marmoush had multiple chances to secure a hat-trick but fired wide on two occasions in the 68th and 71st minutes. He was denied once more by Muller in the 86th minute, while Heidenheim midfielder Adrian Beck struck the woodwork two minutes into stoppage time.
Frankfurt sealed the victory two minutes later when Hugo Ekitike received Ansgar Knauff's square pass and flicked it over the line to make it 4-0.
The result keeps Frankfurt in second place, four points behind Bayern. Heidenheim, meanwhile, drops to 16th, hovering just above the relegation zone.
"We were in control of the game right from the start. The goals in the second half were really good. We were determined to go one better. In the end, I think the win was well deserved. We were in control and never felt we were in danger," said Frankfurt coach Dino Toppmoller.
In other action, Jonathan Burkardt's first-half brace led Mainz to a 2-0 home victory over Hoffenheim, marking their third consecutive win. Enditem
