ABUJA, Dec. 2 (Xinhua) -- The Nigerian government on Sunday announced plans to establish digital technology hubs in at least 200 rural communities nationwide to improve education, communication and connectivity.

Tokoni Igoin, a special assistant to President Bola Tinubu on information and communication technology (ICT) development and digital innovation, said in a statement that many rural communities in Nigeria are constrained by limited access to essential digital infrastructure, which has hindered their economic and educational progress.

"The deployment of these digital hubs aims to accelerate business growth and diversification through the integration of modern technology," Igoin said, adding that in alignment with the Renewed Hope Agenda, the initiative prioritizes the development of the ICT sector and other critical areas of the Nigerian economy.

"The initiative seeks to reduce unemployment, poverty, and social vices by fostering innovation, building capacity, and creating pathways for sustainable development," he added. Enditem
