BUENOS AIRES, Dec. 2 (Xinhua) -- Venezuela international defender Miguel Navarro struck a second-half winner as Talleres Cordoba kept its title hopes alive with a 1-0 home victory over Huracan in Argentina's Primera Division on Monday.

Navarro broke the deadlock on the hour when he took one touch after Gaston Benavidez's pass before lashing a low finish from 16 yards into the bottom left corner.

The result lifted Talleres to second in the 28-team standings with 45 points, three points behind leaders Velez Sarsfield with two match days remaining.

Huracan - title contenders for most of the season - dropped to fourth, two points further back.

"It was a very satisfying performance because everything went as planned," Talleres manager Alexander Medina said.

"Sooner or later this group is going to reap the rewards of their hard work. We're going to do everything that we can to create history for this club," he added.

In other Primera Division fixtures on Monday, Newell's Old Boys drew 0-0 at Atletico Tucuman, Independiente Rivadavia prevailed 2-1 at home to Argentinos Juniors, Platense secured a 1-0 home win over Union Santa Fe and Barracas Central was held to a goalless home draw by Tigre. Enditem
