NEW DELHI, Dec. 3 (Xinhua) -- The death toll in a landslide that hit the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu has risen to seven with the recovery of three more bodies, officials said Tuesday.

The landslide triggered by heavy rains caused by cyclone Fengal on Sunday pushed boulders on a residential building trapping seven people underneath in Tiruvannamalai, about 195 km west of Chennai, the capital city of Tamil Nadu.

"The deceased were identified as a couple in their late twenties and their two children, besides three more children from the neighboring families," an official said.

Authorities in the state are grappling with the aftereffects of cyclone Fengal which made landfall on Saturday night.

Large swathes of the state have been inundated and reeling under flooding because of the heavy rains. The floods have washed out bridges and blocked access to villages and residential colonies, besides damaging crops. Enditem
