BUENOS AIRES, Dec. 3 (Xinhua) -- Argentine World Cup winner Thiago Almada said Tuesday he is unsure if he will remain at Botafogo next year as he seeks a move to Europe.

The 23-year-old joined Botafogo from Atlanta United in July on a deal that reportedly included the possibility of a move to French club Lyon in January. Botafogo and Lyon are both controlled by Eagle Football Holdings.

"I really want to play in Europe," Almada told Argentine news outlet Ole. "When I came to Botafogo, I agreed on a time to go to Europe afterwards. For now the option is Lyon."

Almada has been an impressive addition to Botafogo's squad this season, helping the side to the Copa Libertadores title - South America's premier club trophy - with victory over Atletico Mineiro in last weekend's final.

Botafogo now have their sights on a first Brazilian Serie A title in two decades as they lead the top flight standings with two games remaining.

Beyond that, the Rio de Janeiro outfit is preparing for the FIFA Intercontinental Cup in Qatar later this month and a possible showdown with Real Madrid in the final.

"We are really looking forward to playing these games, and hopefully the final against Real Madrid," said Almada, who was a member of the Argentina squad that won the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. Enditem
