TEHRAN, Dec. 4 (Xinhua) -- Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi announced on Wednesday that he will soon attend a meeting with his Turkish and Russian counterparts within the framework of the Astana format in the Qatari capital Doha.
He made the remarks on the sidelines of a weekly cabinet meeting in the Iranian capital Tehran, following the resumption of rebel groups' attacks in northwestern Syria last week, according to Iran's official news agency IRNA.
The Astana process, launched in 2017 with Türkiye, Russia, and Iran as guarantors, aims to resolve the Syrian civil war, which began in early 2011.
The meeting of the three foreign ministers will be held on the sidelines of the Doha Forum, scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, according to Araghchi.
Araghchi added he would also travel to Iraq's capital Baghdad on Friday to meet Iraqi officials.
Since Nov. 27, Syrian rebel groups, led by the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, have launched a major offensive in northern Syria, aiming to penetrate government-held territories. Enditem
