HAVANA, Dec. 4 (Xinhua) -- Cuba's power grid experienced another nationwide outage early Wednesday morning, following a failure at the island's largest power plant, according to the Ministry of Energy and Mines.
"At 2:08 a.m. today, the National Electric System experienced a total disconnection, caused by the automatic shutdown of the Antonio Guiteras Thermoelectric Power Plant in Matanzas. Efforts are underway to restore service," the ministry said in a post on social media.
This marks the third total power outage in Cuba in recent weeks, attributed to the aging infrastructure of the country's power plants.
The Caribbean island is facing a crisis of shortages in fuel, food, and medicine, driven by economic structural issues and the ongoing effects of the U.S. embargo. Enditem
