WASHINGTON, Dec. 4 (Xinhua) -- President-elect Donald Trump on Wednesday nominated Kelly Loeffler, a businesswoman and former U.S. Senator from Georgia, to serve as the administrator of the Small Business Administration (SBA).

"Kelly will bring her experience in business and Washington to reduce red tape, and unleash opportunity for our Small Businesses to grow, innovate, and thrive," Trump said on his social media platform Truth Social.

Prior to her tenure in the U.S. Senate, Kelly built a 25-year-long career in financial services and technology, Trump said.

In December 2019, Loeffler was appointed by Georgia Governor Brian Kemp to fill the U.S. Senate seat left vacant by Senator Johnny Isakson, who retired due to health reasons. Loeffler later lost in a special election.

During her time in office, Loeffler came under criticism for stock trades she made shortly after receiving briefings on the COVID-19 pandemic in January 2020. Critics claimed she took advantage of the crisis by selling stocks before the market crashed.

Loeffler had fundraised for Trump during the 2024 race and raised several million dollars for his campaign over the summer when she hosted a debate watch party with Republican National Committee Chair Michael Whatley, a report by CNN said.

Also on Wednesday, Trump announced that he nominated Paul Atkins, a former commissioner of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), as the agency's chairman.

Trump nominated Jared Isaacman, CEO of Shift4 who has led two private spaceflights, as the next administrator of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), and Daniel P. Driscoll, a U.S. Army veteran and venture capitalist, to serve as the secretary of the Army, the civilian head of the United States Department of the Army. All nominations above require Senate approval.

Trump also picked his ex-aide Peter Navarro to serve as senior counselor for trade and manufacturing in his next administration, and appointed David A. Warrington to serve as Assistant to the President and Counsel to the President. Enditem
