BUCHAREST, Dec. 6 (Xinhua) -- The Constitutional Court of Romania (CCR) decided on Friday to annul the entire electoral process of the presidential elections.

The ruling was announced just two days before the second round of the presidential election, which was set to feature independent candidate Calin Georgescu and USR candidate Elena Lasconi. Voting had already begun in the diaspora.

The annulment follows complaints from various institutions as well as candidate Cristian Terhes.

The CCR ruling mandates the government to set a new election date and timetable, restarting the electoral process entirely.

Initially, local media reported that the judges of the Constitutional Court will meet on Friday in an informal meeting to analyze whether they will debate in an official session the requests filed regarding the annulment of the first round of the presidential elections.

The judges then formally adopted the annulment of the presidential elections. The decision is final, binding, and will be published in Romania's Official Journal.

The government is now tasked with setting a new election date, and the entire electoral process will be restarted. Enditem
