MINSK, Dec. 6 (Xinhua) -- Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko on Friday asked Russia to provide Belarus with new weapons systems.

Lukashenko asked his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin to deploy new weapons systems, and first of all the Oreshnik, in Belarus.

Following a meeting of the Supreme State Council of the Union State of Belarus and Russia on Friday in Minsk, Lukashenko expressed concern about the situation on the western borders of Belarus and in neighboring Ukraine.

Russian President Vladimir Putin considers it possible to deploy the newest Oreshnik complex in Belarus.

Such new systems as Oreshnik have no analogues in the world, but they are not weapons of mass destruction, Putin said. This is a high-precision weapon, and in case of group use it does not contaminate the area, since there is no nuclear component, he added.

He said the transfer of the systems will be possible in the second half of 2025, as serial production of the Oreshnik increases. Enditem
