BUENOS AIRES, Dec. 7 (Xinhua) -- Elias Gomez scored an own goal as Velez Sarsfield missed the chance to move closer to the Argentine Primera Division title on Saturday with a 1-0 loss at Union Santa Fe.
Gomez inadvertently turned the ball into his own net just before the hour to hand Union its 11th win of the campaign and condemn his side to just its fourth loss.
The result leaves Union sixth in the 28-team standings with 39 points from 26 outings while Velez remains top, three points clear of second-placed Talleres Cordoba.
The latter has two games remaining in the season and Velez only one.
In other matches, Central Cordoba won 3-1 at home to Racing, Lanus prevailed 2-0 at home to Instituto Cordoba, Defensa y Justicia drew 1-1 at Sarmiento, and Deportivo Riestra was held to a goalless home draw by Barracas Central. Enditem
