TOKYO, Dec. 8 (Xinhua) -- The Japanese government plans to increase the security budget for the 2025 World Exposition in Osaka by 5.5 billion yen (about 36.7 million U.S. dollars), citing an expected rise in the number of international dignitaries attending the event, local media reported Sunday.
The adjustment brings the total government expenditure for security and other expo-related costs to approximately 25.5 billion yen, according to National Broadcaster NHK.
The budget increase, deemed essential for the smooth operation of the expo, has been included in a supplementary budget proposal to be submitted to the Diet next week, the report said.
The Japanese government is also bearing costs for constructing parts of the venue and its pavilion, in addition to security expenses. However, the overall cost of venue construction and operations has already surpassed initial projections, posing challenges in managing rising expenses.
The government aims to seek public understanding, emphasizing the necessity of the expenditures for the event's success, the report said. Enditem
