NEW DELHI, Dec. 9 (Xinhua) -- At least 40 schools in the Indian capital territory Delhi on Monday received bomb threats, prompting authorities to rush police teams and bomb disposal squads to these educational institutions, officials said.

The anonymous threats received over emails according to a local newsgathering agency warned that bombs would be detonated unless 30,000 U.S. dollars was paid to the sender.

However, nothing suspicious was found inside these schools, a police official said.

The incident is the latest among a series of hoax bomb threats that have been sent to schools, airports, shopping malls and hospitals in the country, including Delhi in the past months. Enditem
