GENEVA, Dec. 9 (Xinhua) -- United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi on Monday urged all parties in Syria to prioritize law and order to pave the way for voluntary, safe, and sustainable refugee returns.

In a statement issued on the website of UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR), Grandi emphasized that UNHCR advises maintaining a strong focus on the issue of refugee returns. He underscored the need for patience and vigilance, expressing hope that ground conditions will develop positively to support this process.

He also called for urgent international support to address Syria's dire humanitarian needs, with over 90 percent of the population dependent on aid, particularly as winter approaches.

"We urge all parties to act now to ensure this moment becomes a turning point toward hope, recovery, and lasting peace and stability for the Syrian people," he said. Enditem
