JALALABAD, Afghanistan, Dec. 10 (Xinhua) -- Police have collected more than 3,300 pieces of light and heavy weapons during a series of operations in eastern Afghanistan's Nangarhar province over the past eight months, deputy to provincial police chief Mawlawi Tahir Mubariz said.
Talking to reporters on Monday, Mubariz claimed that the police personnel have rounded up "3,331 pieces of different kinds of weapons and arrested 1,542 individuals on the charge of involvement in criminal activities" from across the province over the past eight months.
Police would make every effort to ensure law and order as part of efforts to stabilize peace and security in the province, the official further said.
The Afghan caretaker government, which has collected countless arms and ammunition including battle tanks since assuming power in August 2021, has vowed to take action against anyone carrying arms illegally. Enditem
