NEW DELHI, Dec. 10 (Xinhua) -- Opposition lawmakers on Tuesday filed a no-confidence motion against Jagdeep Dhankhar, chairman of the Indian parliament's upper house and India's vice president.
This marks the first such motion against the upper house's chairman in over 72 years since its establishment. The motion will be discussed in 14 days, and if passed, will move to the lower house for further consideration.
According to Article 67(b) of the Indian Constitution, the vice president can only be removed if the motion is approved by both houses of parliament.
More than 65 opposition members signed the motion, accusing Dhankhar of bias in favor of the government. Indian National Congress lawmaker Syed Naseer Hussain stated that the motion was prompted by Dhankhar's conduct towards opposition members. Enditem
