JERUSALEM -- Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said on Tuesday that Israel was creating a "sterile defense zone" in southern Syria to prevent hostile forces from approaching its borders.
Speaking during a visit to the Navy base in Haifa, Katz said he and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had instructed the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) to establish the zone, which would be "free of weapons and armed threats" and created "without a permanent Israeli presence." (Israel-Defense Zone)

PARIS -- France has begun to withdraw its military forces from Chad, starting with the departure of fighter jets from the base in N'Djamena, the French Ministry of Armed Forces announced on Tuesday.
The decision came after the termination of a security and defense cooperation accord between Chad and France. French Ministry of Armed Forces said the modalities of the disengagement of other French military capacities are being coordinated with the Chadian authorities. (France-Military Withdrawal)

DAMASCUS -- Mohammed al-Bashir announced Tuesday that he has been tasked with heading a transitional government in Syria until early March 2025 following the collapse of the government of Bashar al-Assad.

JAKARTA -- At least 28 people have died mostly from fatigue-related illnesses after helping manage Indonesia's first-ever nationwide simultaneous regional elections last month, a senior Home Affairs Ministry official said on Tuesday.
