Indonesians detained for immigration violation in Brunei

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Dec. 11 (Xinhua) -- Four Indonesians who violated Brunei's Immigration Acts have received fines, jail terms and caning penalty, Brunei's local media reported on Wednesday.

According to the local daily Borneo Bulletin, a 34-year-old Indonesian man, who overstayed in Brunei after his immigration pass expired, was sentenced to five months in jail and punished with three strokes of the cane.

A 55-year-old Indonesian man, who provided work to immigration offenders, was fined 9,000 Brunei dollars (6,700 U.S. dollars), or face three months in jail if he fails to pay the fine.

Meanwhile, another two Indonesians were sentenced to four months in jail and punished with three strokes of the cane after admitting to violating Brunei's laws on immigration, according to the Borneo Bulletin.
