BERLIN, Dec. 11 (Xinhua) -- Bayern Munich's travel group exuded optimism after a dominant 5-1 victory over Shakhtar Donetsk in the UEFA Champions League and the prospect of a rejuvenating winter break.

The resounding win in Gelsenkirchen lifted spirits, helping the team move on from their earlier German Cup defeat to Bayer Leverkusen.

Despite ongoing challenges, including Manuel Neuer's rib injury and a slew of other absences, the 2020 treble winners appeared focused on the opportunities ahead. Contract negotiations with stars Jamal Musiala and Joshua Kimmich remain unresolved, but club officials are reportedly optimistic about reaching agreements soon.

Thomas Muller expressed delight with the performances of Musiala and Michael Olise, who netted two goals in the win. "The magicians keep on wanting to score," Muller said with a grin.

Confidence is surging as Bayern sets its sights on the 2025 Champions League final, which will be held at their home arena in Munich next May. While fans are dreaming of lifting the trophy on home soil, head coach Vincent Kompany is keeping the team grounded. "Fans can dream, no worries. But my approach is different. It's not only about trophies but also about the entire journey," Kompany said.

Two more victories against Feyenoord and Slovan Bratislava are needed to secure automatic qualification to the knockout stages. Musiala, who scored in the Shakhtar game, acknowledged the shared aspirations of his teammates. "It's some way to go, but of course, it's a shared dream for all of us," the 21-year-old said. Reports suggest Musiala is close to agreeing to a new deal with Bayern, with a salary exceeding 20 million euros per season and an extension through 2030. Similar terms are reportedly being discussed with Kimmich.

Winter arrivals appear unlikely, with Kompany emphasizing the team's opportunity to recover before the season resumes in mid-January. Sporting director Max Eberl confirmed there are no plans to sign a replacement for Neuer, who is expected to return early next year.

As the team moves forward, Bayern is embracing the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead with renewed determination and unity. Enditem
