SARAJEVO, Dec. 11 (Xinhua) -- A photo exhibition celebrating the 1972 film Walter Defends Sarajevo opened in Sarajevo on Wednesday.
Jointly organized by the Archives of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) and the Chinese Embassy, the exhibition showcases around 40 photos, including highlights, stills, and manuscripts from the film. Accompanied by the iconic theme music, the exhibition brings the legendary story back to life.
Walter Defends Sarajevo, a renowned anti-fascist film from the former Yugoslavia, premiered in 1972 and gained widespread popularity in China after its release there in 1973. The film recounts the story of Walter, a national hero who led guerrilla forces against German occupation during World War II.
Danijela Mrda, director of the Archives of BiH, said the exhibition is the result of collaboration with the Chinese Embassy to restore and preserve historical documents. She highlighted that such initiatives foster cultural exchange and enhance mutual understanding between the two nations.
Miao Dake, charge d'affaires of the Chinese Embassy, emphasized the film's role as a cultural bridge between China and BiH. Miao noted that since the two countries implemented a visa-free policy in 2018, more Chinese tourists have visited Sarajevo to explore Walter's history, while many BiH youths have traveled to China to experience its modernization achievements.
The exhibition will run until late December. Enditem
