KUALA LUMPUR, Dec. 12 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia maintains an open door policy on technological cooperation in line with its stand as a free and open trading nation, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said here Thursday.

Malaysia has welcomed and worked with technological providers without undue restrictions, Anwar said in his speech at the launch of the National Artificial Intelligence Office (NAIO).

"This shows that our attitude as a country is free to network with all countries while at the same time emphasizing the need to increase trade relations through free trade agreements (FTAs) and other trade agreements at the international level," he said.

He also urged planners and policymakers in the country to ensure that programs fostering artificial intelligence (AI) and technology are implemented, not only for students and the younger generation but also for the civil service and private sector to change the mindset and encourage the rapid adoption of new technology to ensure equitable distribution of the benefits.

In addressing the persistent concern of digital divide, Anwar emphasized the need not just to bridge the gap between the urban elites and the poor, but to extend efforts to the rural communities. Enditem
