MADRID, Dec. 12 (Xinhua) -- Real Madrid faces being without striker Kylian Mbappe for next week's Intercontinental Cup final in Qatar, after the club confirmed he suffered a muscle injury in Tuesday's Champions League game against Atalanta.
Mbappe opened the scoring in the match, which Madrid won 3-2, but had to be substituted 10 minutes before halftime holding the back of his left leg.
Speaking after the game, Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti said he didn't think the injury was serious, but after tests carried out on Thursday, the club explained that: "Following tests carried out on Kylian Mbappe today by the Real Madrid medical department, the player has been diagnosed with a thigh injury in his left leg."
The club didn't give any further details, only commenting that Mbappe's "progress will be monitored", but any hamstring injury means the striker will certainly miss Saturday's game away to Rayo Vallecano and is unlikely to be fit for the Intercontinental Cup final. Enditem
