DAMASCUS -- Syria's interim authorities announced Thursday that all public and private educational institutions will resume classes on Sunday, following a period of disruption due to recent political upheavals in the country.

WASHINGTON -- U.S. President Joe Biden on Thursday pardoned 39 people and commuted the sentences of nearly 1,500, setting a single-day record for acts of clemency.

GAZA -- At least 27 Palestinians were killed and dozens of others injured in Israeli attacks at residential houses in the refugee camp of al-Nuseirat in central Gaza Strip, Palestinian sources said Thursday.

CAPE TOWN -- Traveler movement at South Africa's main border crossing point with Mozambique is now open "until further notice," the country's Border Management Authority (BMA) announced on Thursday.

These protests have repeatedly forced the closure of the crossing since the results of the southeast African country's disputed elections were released on Oct. 24.
