SEOUL, Dec. 14 (Xinhua) -- Moon Hyung-bae, acting head of South Korea's Constitutional Court, said Saturday it will conduct a speedy and fair trial as the National Assembly earlier voted to impeach President Yoon Suk-yeol over his martial law declaration.

Following the passage of the impeachment motion, Yoon will be suspended from his duties, making Prime Minister Han Duck-soo the acting president until the Constitutional Court decides whether to reinstate Yoon or remove him from office.

The court now has 180 days to decide whether to approve the parliament's decision, a development that can trigger an early snap presidential election. Enditem
