SEOUL, Dec. 14 (Xinhua) -- South Korean's Prime Minister Han Duck-soo, the country's acting president, said Saturday he would do his best to stabilize state affairs in accordance with the Constitution and laws, vowing to leave no vacuum in the country's politics.

Han made the remarks during a public address after Yoon Suk-yeol was officially suspended from his duties as president when the impeachment resolution, adopted in parliament Saturday afternoon, was delivered to his office, making the prime minister the acting president.

Han said the government would make every effort to minimize the impact on the daily lives of the people and establish a solid security posture.

He also vowed to ensure the smooth operation of financial and foreign exchange markets and maintain the trust of the international community, calling on public officials to work together to overcome the crisis.

Under the country's Constitution, the prime minister assumes the role of acting president if the president is impeached. President Yoon's presidential duties are only suspended until the Constitutional Court delivers its ruling on the impeachment motion.

If the court upholds the impeachment, Yoon will be removed from office, and the prime minister will continue to act as president until a new president is elected within 60 days. Enditem
