BAGHDAD, Dec. 14 (Xinhua) -- Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' al-Sudani emphasized on Saturday the importance of preventing external interference in Syria's internal affairs, according to a statement from al-Sudani's media office.
Al-Sudani made the remarks during a phone call with French President Emmanuel Macron, during which they discussed the latest developments in the Middle East, particularly the situation in Syria, the statement said.
Al-Sudani highlighted the need for a transitional phase in Syria through a comprehensive political process that guarantees the rights of all Syrians. He also stressed the importance of safeguarding Syria's territorial integrity and unity, which are vital for ensuring regional security and stability, the statement added.
For his part, Macron reaffirmed France's commitment to Iraq's security and stability and expressed support in addressing various challenges, particularly in combating terrorism, the statement noted.
