BAGHDAD, Dec. 15 (Xinhua) -- Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' al-Sudani on Sunday reaffirmed Iraq's support for Syria's territorial integrity, the preservation of social harmony, the protection of minority rights, and respect for Syria's social, cultural, and ethnic diversity, according to a statement from his media office.

Al-Sudani made the remarks during a meeting with the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Iraq Mohamed Al Hassan in Baghdad, during which they reviewed the relations and joint programs between Iraq and the United Nations, as well as the latest developments in Syria.

Al-Sudani reiterated Iraq's principle of non-interference in the internal affairs of Syria and expressed Iraq's readiness to assist the Syrian people in overcoming this difficult phase, it said.

The meeting also covered Iraq's efforts to implement its economic reform plans, combat corruption, and promote other sectors in line with the government's program, it said.

For his part, Al Hassan praised Iraq for its clear stance on Syria, its readiness to support the Syrian people, and its humanitarian aid efforts for the Lebanese and Palestinian peoples, the statement added. Enditem
