SEOUL, Dec. 16 (Xinhua) -- Support for South Korea's main liberal opposition Democratic Party soared ahead of the vote on the second impeachment motion against President Yoon Suk-yeol, a poll showed Monday.
The Democratic Party's approval rating climbed 4.8 percentage points from a week earlier to 52.4 percent last week, according to a survey of 1,001 voters conducted by a local pollster Realmeter on Thursday and Friday.
Support for the ruling People Power Party dipped 0.5 percentage points to 25.7 percent, broadening the difference between the rival parties to the highest of 26.7 percentage points since Yoon took office in May 2022.
The second motion to impeach Yoon was passed through the National Assembly on Saturday after the first motion failed to be passed a week earlier as most of the People Power Party lawmakers boycotted the vote.
Yoon declared an emergency martial law on the night of Dec. 3, but it was revoked by the National Assembly hours later.
Yoon was named by investigative agencies as a suspect on an insurrection charge and became the first sitting president to be banned from leaving the country. Enditem
