JAKARTA, Dec. 16 (Xinhua) -- An earthquake of 5.6-magnitude struck off Indonesia's eastern Maluku province on Monday, according to the country's meteorology and geophysics agency.
The tremor occurred at 5:14 p.m. local time, with epicenter located 47 km southwest of Tehoru sub-district in Central Maluku regency at a depth of 10 km.
No tsunami warning was issued, as the tremor was not strong enough to generate large waves.
Indonesia, an archipelagic country, lies on the Pacific Ring of Fire, making it prone to frequent seismic activity due to its location in a tectonically active zone with 127 active volcanoes. Enditem
