WASHINGTON, Dec. 16 (Xinhua) -- U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken and U.S. Senator Marco Rubio, who has been picked by President-elect Donald Trump to succeed Blinken, have agreed on a face-to-face meeting on an undetermined date in the days ahead, a State Department spokesperson said Monday.
Matthew Miller, the spokesperson, told reporters at a regular press briefing that during the last phone conversation between Blinken and Rubio, "they agreed that they would meet in person."
"I don't have a date to provide for that meeting," Miller said, adding that the press will be informed of such a meeting "when it does happen."
Representing the state of Florida in the U.S. Senate, Rubio, a descendant of Cuban immigrants and member of the Republican Party, would become the next secretary of state if and when he is confirmed by the Senate after Trump takes office on Jan. 20, at which time the GOP will have regained majority in the Senate.
