RAMALLAH, Dec. 16 (Xinhua) -- A Palestinian teenager was killed on Monday evening by Israeli army gunfire in the Askar refugee camp, east of Nablus in northern West Bank, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry and local sources.
The ministry said in a brief statement that the body of a Palestinian was brought to Rafidia Government Hospital in Nablus city.
Majed Abu Kishk, head of the popular committee -- a grassroots organization representing and organizing the camp's residents -- told Xinhua that Israeli forces stormed the camp on Monday, opening fire and killing 17-year-old Mohammad Abu Kishk, while several others were injured.
The Israeli army has not issued an immediate comment on the incident. However, Israel often describes such raids in the West Bank as "counter-terrorism operations" targeting individuals associated with Palestinian armed groups.
The West Bank has been witnessing escalating tensions since Oct. 7, 2023, during which more than 810 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli gunfire and airstrikes, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry. Enditem
